Tejas Phansekar : In A Chat With An Advertising Creative

Born in small village of Maharashtra – Kochara (Sindhudurg) in 1988.
His father wanted him to pursue agricultural studies following his family tradition but he had other plans, aimed with a dream to study art where no one had even heard or dreamt, he came to Pune guided by his sister to study in Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya and did his foundation.
This is where he heard of Sir. J.J. Institute of Applied art, the land of artists in Mumbai.

He got in with merit, during the third year after winning a inter college competition – Vignettes for the brand Taj Holidays amongst all colleges. He was awarded a internship with Ogilvy. Which opened a whole new world of advertising for him. After which he did ATC Photography part time course for 1 year which led to him to becoming the finalist – CAG Filmmaker of the year, in the final year of graduation. After completing graduation he set out to work with TBWA\ India. Followed by Ogilvy & Mather, Mumbai .

He has worked for clients like Nissan, Raymond, Standard chartered, Datsun, IDFC, Lenovo smartphone & laptop, IPL Mumbai indians, TATA Sumo, TATA Safari, Nutrela, Dulcoflex, Kirloskar, Onida, Brooke bond, Reliance, Star, Vodafone, BJP, LYF Smartphone, Ongo.

Why are you into Advertising?
Since childhood , I had this urge to prove to people that art has a career and my passion for it will take me places. It was precisely in third year of jj when I won Vignettes ( A inter college competition) where I got an internship at ogilvy. I realised, this is where I have to come back,
the glamour, the creative pressure, the blossoming of ideas and pitches
of victory everything felt like a dream.

Sarang Bijagare : Illustrations

Coming from a small city of Yavatmal, Sarang Bijagare took to Polytechnic instead of Art College. He graduated as a Civil Engineer, and worked for a while before diving into the world of Art. He admitted himself to Abhinav Art College in Pune, and started his exciting journey in Art.

Why are you an Illustrator?
Because drawing is my first love.

Did you attend school for fine art or design?
Yes, I did my G.D.Art (Applied Arts) from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune.

You have a distinct style of illustration. How long did it take you to develop your style?
I basically focus on realistic drawings & try to simplify them with different forms & styles.
I can adapt any style of illustration, because we all know how advertising illustration is.
Creative directors are always looking for something new.

Yogesh Bhusare : Illustrations and Graphic Design

Why are you a Graphic Designer?
Just like every other student in arts I too dreamt of creating masterpieces in art ..My journey began with joining an event agency. Though it was not a design firm, it gave me that creative freedom to experiment an find the space I’m looking forward to fit in. I experimented with styles, elements and did much work on a personal level to improve myself. After some time Taproot happened! I got to learn number of things in taproot where I thought I was a nobody in the industry. It enhanced my creativity and helped me understand how curative’s in advertising works. Through all the ups and downs in my life I have always believed in one thing that is hard work pays off, maybe not immediately, but someday it will.

Did you attend school for fine art or design?
I completed my Bachelor of Fine Arts from D.Y Patil College of Applied Arts and crafts, pune.

What was the brief given by Dabur?
The client’s brief was to extend the fruit equity of Real to the fizz category and target a new TG which was not directly being targeted by Real – the youth. It had to appeal to the target group including Males & Females, SEC A within the age group of 22-25 years living in the metro cities.

The TG looks for a drink with aspirational value and they consume the beverage as a mood enhancer, which helps them break from the monotonicity to elevate their mood. They have graduated from the Carbonated Soft Drink usage and need the fun of fizz in their drink along with tangible benefits. It is the format of the drink that is fruit & fizz which is a new appealing proposition that they want to try, also the variants is a trigger for usage due to the taste perception & exoticness of the berries.

This is a drink that gives the consumer a new tasty option of a fizzy drink with the goodness of fruits, an exotic treat that uplifts their mood. The core reason to believe was an offering with exotic fruits with the excitement of fizz from the house of Real.
