The neckline has been used creatively as a trendline in Simon's graph. Its a graph that plots the ''fluctuations in wealth'' he went through during significant points in his career to reach where he is at.

what I was saying is why a vest neckline. it is a curve that depicts state of personal finance. it could be a mountain, it could be a curve in his coffee mug, it could be something else.

WHY NECKLINE OF VEST?
Because a V-neck tee is his popular trademark attire. Also maybe because Cowell, being a music executive and television producer - may not have many visual trademarks. Or say popular ones. And he has been on the Idol shows for so long, a mid close-up with the man in a v neck has become sort of a familiar sight.

This is another ad in the series featuring Paul McCartney. Here they've used the bout of his guitar as a trendline. Since the celebrity in context is Paul McCartney, you can conveniently use his guitar bout as a trendline - him being a rockstar and all.

ALSO i found this in an artical about the campaign:

"Simon Cowell’s plunging neckline mirrors his financial fortunes in CHI & Partners clever new print campaign for The Sunday Times Rich List

Cowell’s career has seen him plunge the depths of inflicting Robson & Jerome’s musical offerings at the public before his meteoric, reality TV-fuelled rise to close omnipotence. His highs and lows neatly match his penchant for the deepest of deep v-necks, as illustrated in CHI’s campaign for the yearly Sunday Times Rich List."

I JUST explained. The v-neck is cowell's trademark as is a guitar, paul mccartney's. And it matches his trendline of highs n lows.
