We designers do take part in many design competitions. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose. There are also cases in which some organizers never declare who the winner is.
Just now I had a unique experience by entering a logo design competition endorsed by a Government Institution for CyberPark Kozhikode. The logo competition was in 2008 November (Then I was a first semester student at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore). Yesterday -- through a job advertisement of CyberPark in newspapers -- I realized that my logo is in use for the past one year and I didn't know about it. I am trying to forget the promised "cash prize and a memento in a function."
My two submissions for the logo design competition for CyberPark Kozhikode in November 2008.
what happened with you in very unfortunate. this often happens, I think, with Govt contests where they decide on the winners long after everyone has forgotten about it! I hope you win your case. Will follow up on it...
omg what hapd to you is really sad
its weird how things like this happen ....n especially after the competitions over
but these seem to be very smart guys ......look at the bright side ...your logo was that good enough to actually be used by a caompany
so what happened ?? did they pay you ????
Dear All,
Thanks for the support.
Yes, I forwarded old e-mails with my submissions and their acknowledgment on receiving the same to the CEO of CyberPark (Autonomous body under Government of Kerala). The CEO, over phone, assured me that the logo is indeed my creation, he is investigating the matter and he will settle this as soon as possible.
So I'm waiting...
Hope you get justice. CEO calling and assuring is definitely, light in the dark!
Let's wait and watch. If nothing happens, I suggest we start an online campaign or something against the body.
Last week I received one more e-mail from the CyberPark CEO informing me that "we are working on a plan to recognize your success in the competition. Will get back to you soon."
CyberPark is a Government of Kerala Institution. But I hope they settle this as soon as possible. If nothing happens, then I am sure that you all guys will help me in making my voice heard.
My blog post and this post in DesiCreative have created enough hits so that a simple Google Search for "CyberPark logo" results in my blog entry on this goof-up.
this is shocking! these guys have used uour logo, which they received as part of a contest and never announced the contest winners? wow!! All the best, Antzfx and I think you are doing a correct and pragmatic thing!
I suggest give them a deadline within which they have to tell you what they are going to do about it!
And in the meanwhile chalk out a plan of action if they don't recognize your effort!
I am very happy to inform that CyberPark officials recognized me as the ‘Designer of CyberPark Logo.’ I was invited for the foundation stone laying ceremony of CyberPark Kozhikode on 17-May-2010. A memento was presented to me by Mr. Bhaskaran, Mayor of Kozhikode. I was also given a cash prize by Adv. P M A Salam, Member of Legislative Assembly from Kozhikode. The CyberPark foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by Mr. V. S. Achuthanandan (Chief Minister of Kerala), Mr. Mullappally Ramachandran (The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs), Mr. Elamaram Kareem (Minister for Industries, Kerala), Mr. Binoy Viswam (Minister for Forest and Housing, Kerala) and other dignitaries.
