58 shortlists for india

Post by Paromita »

FROM AGENCYFAQ.COM

the festival kicked off for India in spectacular style, with two Lions falling into Indian clutches - a Promo Lion for JWT for Lehar Kurkure, and a Silver Lion in Direct for Rediff, for Midland Bookstore. The six shortlists for the Press, Outdoor, Media, Direct, Promo and Radio categories held more good news: For India has cornered a record 58 shortlists across the six categories - 24 in Press, 23 in Outdoor, six in Media, three in Direct and one each in Promo and Radio.

That's more than double the previous record for shortlist entries from India. Said an elated Colvyn Harris, CEO, JWT India, “This Lion is just fabulous - JWT has started India off on a great note. And Levi's is still to come, it's a winner. With Craig Davis, Bruce Matchett and Agnello Dias, I think the whole agency is aligned to doing good work. This is proof of that focus.”

In Press, both JWT India and O&M India have six entries, while McCann Erickson, Ambience Publicis and Grey Worldwide have three each. Burnett India has two, and Contract accounts for the last remaining entry. In Outdoor, McCann has seven shortlisted entries, followed by O&M with four shortlists.

Mudra, Rediffusion DYR and Contract have two each, while Vyas Giannetti Creative, Ambience, Lowe, Burnett, Adfactors and Everest are in the fray with one entry apiece. In Media, Madison leads the India challenge with three shortlisted entries, for P&G, Cadbury and Marico, while MindShare, Mudra and Burnett split the remaining three.

Rediff accounts for two of the three shortlists in Direct - iContract is the other agency making a bid for Lions in this category. The sole Indian entry on the Promo shortlist was JWT's winning Kurkure entry, while Rediffusion is the only agency keeping India's hopes alive in Radio with one shortlisted entry, for Chevrolet Tavera.

O&M and McCann, with 10 shortlisted entries each across categories, are leading the Indian charge. JWT with seven shortlists follows, while Rediff has five. Contract, Ambience and Burnett have four each; Mudra, Madison and Grey have three apiece.

While it is anybody's bet how many of these entries finally convert into Lions, the general feeling is that in Press, some of JWT's work for Levi's, Burnett's entries for Maneland Jungle Lodge, McCann's entries for UTI Bank and Wonderbra, and O&M's work for IAPA are strong contenders. In Outdoor, O&M's entry for Fevicol, McCann's entry for Wonderbra and Everest's entry for Cancer Patients Aid Association are viewed favourably.

The buzz is certainly back among members of the Indian contingent. “This is wonderful news for India,” says Piyush Pandey, executive chairman & NCD, O&M. “I remember the time India had only one shortlist, and Sonal Dabral and I got our pictures clicked.

Fifty eight shortlists is a testimony to the quality of creative talent that's coming into our industry.” Mr Pandey acknowledges that ultimately what matters is how many of these shortlists convert into metal. Yet, he says, “Whether we're world winners is to be seen - but yes, this shows that we're definitely world players.” In a week's time, we'll know for sure. But early signs of an Indian summer at Cannes are everywhere.
