Pretty forced sentence construction and unnecessarily over art-directed. The black adds nothing but wasted real estate. Also, the copy really labours to make the point and uses 'tricks' to get there.

i agree with you on the black bit. not not on the wasted real estate.

I think the ad would have looked better on a white background. the extra 'real estate' is an apt way to draw attention to the ad itself.
