*deep breath* Hey folks!

Post by auro »

I am (was) a science nerd who chucked the expected and 'strongly recommended' option of becoming a scientist and decided to become a copywriter. Wish I knew of the existence of this site before taking the plunge. But now I'm here and I can only hope to learn while staying afloat.

So ermm... Hi?? :)

Thanks people. :) What made me join advertising? Well, mostly because I love writing, and the process of telling the story of a brand through ads has always seemed exciting to me. I have always actually enjoyed sitting through commercials. A career in hard sciences was stifling me. I had been dying to break out for a year and get into a creative field but I erroneously assumed that you needed specific educational qualifications to be a copywriter. Needed a couple of friends who are in advertising to correct my assumption(wish I had thought to ask them sooner). Applied to a few start-ups and took up the first offer I got. Been working for a month, still learning the ropes. Wish I had known about this forum a little earlier so I would have researched better and cast out the nets into deeper waters.

Oh well. It's hardly over. :D

Are you applying for copytests?

I heard Salt Brand Communication in Mumbai is looking for people.

I had put that on hold for a bit since I just joined this particular agency. Thanks for the info.

Hey! I'm still at the agency I joined at.

@Saumya
Sorry for the very late reply, haven't visited this forum in months. Yeah, I had to give a copy test.

It's been a tumultuous several months I must say.

A rather thin copy department equals me being the sole handler of all digital copy and content requirements within a month of my joining. So I've been trying my best to stay afloat and learning on my own, freaking out over mistakes and never really knowing whether my stuff has any potential. It's been tumultuous, but not tortuous. Yet.

Is it normal to feel that the work in the accepted pile is of far lesser quality than the work in the rejected pile?

Thats very normal.
Whatever you do, you will never get out of that.
But you can keep trying to equalise the balance.
