GoaAdfest Fiasco and Indian Advertising

We all know what happened at Goa Adfest 2013.

"According to sources present at the meet, the Super Jury has sent a communication to the Goafest Managing Committee to bar any objections received post the release of Abbys shortlist, which in effect means all complaints will be barred due to time limitation."

What do the creatives think? A plagiarized entry is a plagiarized entry, whether someone raised an objection sooner or later. Its like if a cyclist is found to have been taking banned performance enhancing steroids, his/her medal may be taken away.

1) Advertising in India says 'its OK to plagiarize'?
2) Top honchos are trying to save their agencies' reputation.

Well, as long as our industry keeps pushng 'creatives' to win awards to justify their positions, this is gong to happen. And I am sure the 'seniors' feel empathy for the creators of the entries in question because of the intense pressure under which ey were created.

But is there such intense pressure for released work? I havent seen the results.

Some observations
There is only two ways to get advertising glory in India: Either one can do brilliant TV commercials or win awards
most of the scams happen in print media or radio at the most. doing scams with TV commercials will be costly
In print, we don't see great ads too often. I doubt whether India needs print ads which are superbly written in the English language
so what will our brilliant writers do? what will the bosses who get writers craft and recraft till it's perfect for juries do?
what will the creatives who are too intelligent, anglicized and classy to do mass based TV advertising do?
Thanks to their sophistication and debating skills they are the leaders in the industry but they risk being redundant. they will get their glory from awards.

In 2012, when I started my agency, Window Square, I was so excited to attend Goafest 2012, presuming that it's gonna give me a lifetime learning. The facts that I realized after the event are:

a) The seminars that we've attended is all available in youtube ( at least 80% of the speeches are something that are already existing in youtube)
b) Creative Showcases: I have instructed myself to get wondered at every work, but somewhere I knew that they are something unimplemented and got very less to learn from.
c) Awards: I wouldn't like to talk a word about it, period.
d) The best I could find: Google sessions, sculptures, PR events looked decent enough for me & of course hot chicks too (for guys: it makes you feel alien if you can't find a gal's company, at least I felt)

At a cost of 12K I learnt that I have to dig well about the events before attending rather than just piling up expectations and finally getting disappointed. I believe that Kyoorious Design Yatra is gonna be way better than Goafest (in terms of learning & networking).

I Agree with both KyaRajesh and JCSaiKrishna.

I also feel Kyoorius Design Yatra is better than Go AdFest.

Advertising has gone to the dogs.

@Rajesh: The major reason for TV Commercials is money. Everybody makes a lot of it. I hope you understand what I am suggesting ;-)

Print is dead because no one makes money. And the poor Art Director us shoved down a hole as most of the time she/he is too 'vernacular' to protect her/his work in an anglicized industry. However, if someone gets gora art directors, everyone will be happy.

Goa Adfest is nothing but a shallow inward looking incestuous affair, with a lot of you-scratch-my-back-i-scratch-yours happening.

Kyoorius Design Yatra is a forward looking forum.

You cant compare the two.

Having said that, I knew this kind of thing would come up in Goa AdFest. But I also knew the industry would quickly cover it up.If I were a honcho, i would sack all people involved in questionable entries.

Its ok. fashion designers walk something on the ramp and sell something else. Its perfectly OK to do that. Stop the ranting and prove something.
