Hi all! New to this forum. Need some Guidance with regard to jobs for copywriters. I have been working for a small agency for a few months but not very happy with the job. I am getting 25k per month. I would like to know whether desicreative can throw some light on any job options for me within Bangalore.

"25K, what currency? USD? If yes, that is quite a large salary already!"
LOL...not at all. It is very much in Indian rupee. Can someone enlighten me on the salary given to freshers in advtg esp copywriting?

freshers may get about 10-15k a month. if they are from some design school or Mass Media in Advertising kind of degree, then perhaps 20-25. But thats for creatives. Figures may differ for account management.

I will have to apply as a fresher. I have 9 months of prior experience but not in an ad agency(this generally works against me)

Yes, I have been looking through the mentioned forum. If the internship is at a reputed agency and is over a reasonably long period of time, i would not mind exploring the opportunity. Also i would be more than happy to work as an intern at the entry level if that is a norm/policy with the agency as far as freshers are concerned.

Can any of you tell me what is the ideal way to approach big ad agencies at entry level irrespective of whether they have vacancies or not(bcoz as i understand, there are always openings at entry level though the salary is not great) ? Is it through some personal contacts or by approaching the HR person or should I approach the Creative head in person and ask for a copy test? I will also admit that i have not been very successful in getting in touch with the 'right' people in ad agencies as i have zilch contacts so have been routed through HR people who don't respond properly or sound disinterested most of the time. What is the best course of action in this scenario? Also do ad agencies(esp. big agencies) appreciate strangers barging into their office and clamouring for a job/copy test? I apologise in advance if my questions sound too silly or basic. But I am kind of desperate for a job switch.

Cold Calls.
There is little other way.
Go to
www.desicreative.com (home page) where you see great ads being posted everyday. Along with the ads, the names of the CDs and agencies are written. Find the numbers of the agencies from Google or from their websites
(example: www.jwt.com has a listing of all their agency branches).
Call the Creative Directors and convince them of your passion. Most of the time it will be difficult to access these guys. But thats the chance you will have to take. Some will take your calls and meet you as well. Thats the only way to break into the business.
Meanwhile, keep taking ads out of newspapers and magazines, TV and radio, and rewrite them. The ones you write should be better than the ones that got published. That will be your portfolio. Any CD you meet, will want to see your portfolio.
If you cant sell yourself, how will you sell the client's brand?
