Agency - Lowe LintasVisual Computing Labs - Tata Elxsi Ltd. (VCL) was recently given an opportunity to execute the latest TVC for Woodland Shoes. The brief given by the agency was very simple, a Woodland shoe lying in the forest which gets trampled by a herd of wild elephants. While this was good enough, we thought it would be better to have a story line revolving around this incident.
Our animation directors, Shrirang Sathaye and Suhael Merchant came up with the idea of a baby elephant as the antagonist who would lead us through the film.
The TVC starts with the baby elephant discovering the shoe lying in the forest. He starts playing with it and accidentally tosses it into the walking herd. The shoe gets trampled upon, kicked and tossed around by the herd. We added in a little humour in the end where the baby elephant gets startled as the shoe pops back to its original shape.
The look and feel required for the film was hyper real with very realistic looking elephants and backgrounds. The client wanted this film to look as if it had been shot in live action because they wanted their product to look realistic in very realistic settings.
Our entire team of modeling, rigging, lighting, compositing and BG artists as well as our animators rose up to the challenge and came up with some very realistic scenes which otherwise would have been extremely difficult to achieve.
Even though the film is only of 15 sec duration, we have managed to pack in an interesting blend of storytelling with fantastic hyper real visuals which gives this commercial a powerful, big screen feel.
