It's official.
I am in the final semester; campus placements are not happening for designers and I need a job to earn my daily biriyani (I hate bread)!

Image

After much thought, I compiled some of my works as an online portfolio. You have seen a few of them earlier.
Please visit: http://portfolio.antzfx.com

A PDF version is also available as:
http://antzfx.com/download.php?src=Port ... ore_LR.pdf
As soon as I get a high speed internet, I will be uploading the pdf in 'Scribd' so that you can browse it without leaving this page.

Help me to improve my portfolio by sending your views and comments.

i like your peeloff button, even though that's not what u r asking here. and i don't knw why i like it.

i love concept of the solar powered reading lamp. just felt that how it looks is a bit raw. maybe it could be more stylised? how would apple make that lamp look for example?

who won the pepsico design? curious to see the design. didn't like your design. seems very "to the brief" kind of stuff :-!

totally loved the tooth pick stand. by the way what 3d software do you use? (oh, just saw.. u use sollidworks.) do u use it yourself? how about uploading some of your 3d work in the forum?

love the stream bathroom shelf. specially the thought of having perforated counter tops to drain the water. good practical thinking.

love love love the coffee table. but at first glance i did not see it as a coffee cup. want to improve on that?

dustbin come dustpan is very very interesting!

love the tea cup. (didn't u say it was a coffee cup somewhere else in this forum?). but why would u call it 'hard'?

hahahaha to torch that can be strapped on the shoulder!

oh i love the doormat... getting to like your stuff more and more as i scroll down! and you are not getting a job??? (but just why did you use a computer window interface design there?)

the chairs are ugly! am sure the chair could look better AND be practical like u want it to be.

love the mosquito vaporizer! r u doing these for any clients? if not, i hope u r copyrighting these ideas! they are good!

no comments on cubee. did nothing to me.

lovely modelling in washing machine.

my suggestion is don't include what u did at internship at rediff. is not going with the other work which is far superior.

hope this helps and way to go dude!

great ideas, antxfx! if i were an innovation shop i would hire you in a jiffy! how about starting your own "practical designs" shop instead of waiting for some stranger to appreciate your work, and then get paid peanuts for it??

i loooove your mosquito vaporiser! its sooo handy! I always have this problem with my boyfriend! he wants to connect his mac's power cord and I have to put the mosquito thing on. and you know how our tiny 'ant's-wedding-ring-size' homes dont have too many power outlets! lovely! clap clap!

@raja ghose:

Thanks a lot for the detailed review.
I wanted to separate my portfolio into three -- product design, print design and web design. This prompted me to use a peel-off sticker on all the pages.

Product design is in three phases: Phase 1 -- Concept verification (Here the technology is verified), Phase 2 -- Prototype development (Initial ideas on the styling of the product), Phase 3 -- Production ready prototype (Final look of the product). Solar Reading Lamp is now in Phase 2. In my portfolio page, the image on the top is Phase 2 and the remaining are from Phase 1. Wait till phase 3 is complete!

As far as I know, PEPSICO didn't name a winner for the 'Designer of the year 2009' contest because none of the entries were fit for production. The brief was to make end caps, visi-cooler tops, interactive kiosks... for any brand of PEPSI. I took '7UP' brand so that I can experiment with bubbles or ice cubes.

SolidWorks is used by Mechanical Engineers because once you make a mechanical part in it, it can be physically made using rapid prototyping machines/ CAM tools as they can directly read the SolidWorks file format. During my internship at Rediffusion, I made a lot of 3D stuffs for them and so my friends acknowledge me as 'SolidWorks Expert.'

Bathroom shelf is a competition entry ('Make any household item using steel'), waiting for the results. :|

I am thinking of giving an elevation drawing of the coffee table -- this will clearly communicate about its shape.

Dustbin/pan always gets me a lot of appreciation.

Coffee/Tea cup: When you usually design something with planes, straight edges, black and shiny surfaces: it gives out an image of 'hard and brittle' object (so says theory). When I was asked to design something that is 'hard and brittle,' I came up with the present idea.

Shoulder Torch was done in a group. I must give the credit to Pavan Sreedharan (he got a campus placement from General Motors).

Since the doormat calculates weight, its name is given as 'Calc' that stands for Windows Calculator (Just try: Start-> Run -> type "calc" -- without quotes, press 'OK'). So the interface is made as that of a Windows program.

Classroom Chair is a group effort -- Anand (BOSCH), Madhu, Anjanakrishnan and I did it. The important point to note is that we looked into the ergonomics/human factors and learned a hell lot of things about furniture design. Heard of 'lumbar support,' anyone?

Mosquito vaporizer is submitted to a maker who is in business. Waiting for the reply...

'Cubee' was made to explore on 'product family.' The point is, if you can infer 'Cubee' is from 'Coke,' my work is done!

Washing Machine is made by Sharath and me. We enjoyed it.

Since I am not limiting to product design, I thought I will show other works too. And, Rediffusion was a great experience.

@Anjana Kamat: First I need industry experience to improve my skills. And I need money too...

@Sonya: While on a visit to South Korea, I noticed that they have only one power outlet socket, one cable TV socket and one internet cable socket in bed room. No ON/OFF switches and the socket is always powered ON. We had to buy an extension cord to run our laptops, mobile phone chargers and external hard disks. Everywhere, minimalism is a common trend.

but your ideas are excellent. i think you MUST speak to someone, like maybe 'Mortein' to get this one made. awesome! clutter breaking, If I must say so.
