Swapan, it is great to have great minds like you here. We have heard somuch about you but one question bogs my mind. How come we do not see more of Equus in international awards? Are you in for poaching creative stars like hemant, jiten etc? Or you do not consider awards like Cannes, D&AD blah blah?

I stay away from most awards. The Indian ones are erected on scam ads for which I have no tile or respect. As far as the international festivals are concerned, I feel that our work is not up to the mark in soe instances and in other cases they too are typical in terms of some rather strange wins. I meand, the Sony coloured balls ad was in the shortlist for the best film. It is nothing but a heap of crap. Ditto with the Carling stuff. What should have won was a wonderful political ad film. Forget the name but it runs in reverse at some stage. Having said that I look forward to Neil French's newawards. Neil is perhaps the only man who also sees the sham that mot fests are. We will certainly enter those. Ah yes, I do have enormous regard for D&AD. Will be there. Having said that, I have won my share of Cannes and Clios long before it became fashionable to send Indian delegations there.

Swapan, i think most people agree with you secretly but there is so much of a rat race for awards that we just copy western opinion. I agree Sony Balls was a crappy over budgeted film (they spent 6 million $ to make it). And I also feel cheated to see scam ads that never seen the day light like India's levi's slim jeans that got a gold at cannes and almost made it to grand prix and everyone says how hot jwt creative is. Why is that the real levis work of jwt is so crap?
I would be deligted to see Neil French's awards.

that is the point. we have become so self-congratulatory a community that we fail to realise that we are delusional to ourselves. I believe you must be the best judge of your own work. And I have judged some awards in the past. it is full of shit. You should se how agency heads and executive creative directors mark their own work. And what upsets me is that all these geriatrics are just leading a young generation astray by instilling this awards obsession in them. Having said that, I admire someone like Prasoon Joshi who I think is the finest hindi writer we have. If you have an entire nation hum your songs, then that is the greatest award. You dwarf in comarison with him when he writes " sharm aur haya ke parde girake..." I can visualize those words. Enchanting.

How true. It would be great if people like you speak out more against the sham in this award business. The problem is that awards are not only good for the Art Directors but also linked to the success of their bosses who would not want to hire good creatives without awards. I see all these desi CDs hogging the limelight at cannes where their juniors are winning. Look at the realwork coming out from most agencies....it is utter crap. And I have still seen creatives struggle on real breif while they come up dime a dozen award winners.
Prasoon, I love.

Swapan, when you create a message look at the bottom, there is an 'add an attachment' button. click and browse. do not make the attachments too big, and you should be fine.

and this is one of my all-time favourites. I admired the client's courage. He is over 65 years of age. perhaps that explains why he understood the significance of long copy ads in these trecherous days

Now the recruitment ad is still valid. So if any of you blokes are looking for a job, give me a shout and throw me your portfolio. If it's average, don't bother.
