Indian advertising influened by MTV India?

Have u guys seen a great deal of shift in the way we are shooting TV spots? Back in the early 90s they were more aspirational, subdued colors, very international. Remember the Erickson TVC (surprisingly small) that got gold at Cannes (probably India's first). Then came MTV's Indianisation, and they started making spoofs of everything typical indian, like rickshaws, bhelpuri wala etc and now every da is doing the same. From perferitti, to india times...
Thoughts?
Commercial breaks are actually Entertaining...

I for one am pleased.. these days I actually refrain from muting the TV volume while they have their commercial breaks, for the simple reason that ads are cooler than they were 10yrs back.
Has anyone checked out the new Happy Dent White ad? (not the buffalo one, the other one with light fixtures)... that is brave!! similarly that mentos ad with some quirky dude falling down for some arcane reason.. I'd actually watch these over and over again... almost as if it's a bunch of cool little short films!

the changeover is the best thing to happen to DesiTV. Otherwise we were simply apeing the west. but hope that happens also in our photography editorials. i mean elle, cosmo and all, they just look like from any western country.

MTV India is perhaps amongst the most pseudo and shallow creative place i have been to. people seem to think that one must LOOK creative. weird hair and stuff and the work is shallow. some NID kids save the day, else the place is pretty shallow...

i agree. there is no originality in MTV. there is no difference between MTV India and B4U music. It is only bollywood and they are killing local Indian talents.

MTV has become like Chitrahaar of earlier days. Only Chitrahaar used to play better music. DD was a sure good channel to watch with Nukkar, Bunyaad and other nice stuff...

Agreed. what is the USP of MTV? MTV came to India on the strenght of being a foreign music channel which we wre all longing for, and they had cool VJs like Danny McGill, Kamal Sidhu etc. Since then it has totally gone down the drain. I mean why do they keep on playing Bollywood movie trailers, why not some cool Bhangra from UK, why not some International music. If i want to watch bollywood song then i would switch to so many other local channel.
Or they should have a seperate MTV Desi. I am so frusrated as I can get to watch some of the best international songs. 10 years back when we had desi parties we were playing SNOW, McHammer etc and now we play Bunty & Bubly. This is a reverse drive.

Agree with all. But in this din and hallaballo haven't they lost their originality, i wonder. And where is the concept? We don't see many interesting tvc's these days. They almost run on parallel themes. Photography and tachnique has improved but that is happening every where, anyway.

photography and technique have improved, and Directors have bvecome more PR friendly, appearing in party circuit t make sure they are always n the news. But ultimately they make all the money at the cost of teh poor Agency Creatives...
