Freeehand R.I.P

Post by Paramvir »

I remember the time when we used to work on Aldus Freehand. Then Adobe bought it. Then Altsys took it back and soon sold it to Macromedia.

Then Adobe bought Macromedia.

I was scared they would kill Freehand. They did.

Registered users of Freehand can "upgrade" to the CS3 version of Illustrator for only $199. Additionally, Illustrator CS3 has the ability to import Freehand 10 & MX files.

From adobe.com/freehand
No updates to FreeHand have been made for more than four years, and Adobe has no plans to initiate development to add new features or to support Intel® based Macs or Microsoft® Windows Vista™ operating systems.

To support customer workflows, we will continue to sell FreeHand and offer technical and customer support in accordance with our policies.

While we know that FreeHand has a loyal customer base, we encourage users to migrate to new Adobe Illustrator® CS3 software, which supports both PowerPC® and Intel based Macs, Windows® XP, and Windows Vista.

Illustrator CS3 offers powerful new features, including functionality designed to appeal to FreeHand users such as tight integration with Adobe Flash CS3 Professional, sophisticated color controls, an intuitive Eraser tool, easier Path editing, and more responsive performance.

FreeHand customers can switch to Illustrator CS3 for US$199 and access complimentary resources to ease the transition. Volume licensing is also available. For additional information, visit the Illustrator CS3 product pages.
