different cultures/countries may have different ways of observing this event. whats your context?Easter is the most important event on the Christian calendar.
Basically because it is the reaffirmation of the Christian faith - Jesus was resurrected - and lives - proving the afterlife - so to speak.
No Easter. No proof.
No resurrection. No kingdom of heaven.

u probably already know by now that easter is the most important event in the Catholic calendar............
the prelude to easter is a 40 day period, known as 'lent', which basically is a 40 day period of fasting & abstinence. in todays day n age, not too many ppl fast for the entire 40 days, but usually abstain from something (viz. smoking, alcohol, meat & anything they believe is an indulgence)
scripture says that Christ was crucifed, died & rose again on the 3rd day i.e. easter sunday. thus the celebration. celebrations begin with a midnight religious service or the 'mass', where the congregation renew their baptism vows, signifying new life after Christs resurrection. Hence, the easter egg, which is symbolic of new life.
celebrations are extravagant (like all celebrations are)..............but, more so, for persons who've abstained during the period of lent. no exchange of gifts like at christmas, just easter eggs to add to the festivities.
symbolically a much more important occassion than christmas, but celebration wise quite subdued.
