Thanks Shoneeka for the Delhi leads. I will be there on the 13th and 14th of september. Will try a couple of the joins there.

i am in kolkata this week. Even though i have grown up here, coming back gives me the creeps. The pre-paid taxi system is completely disorganised, the regular taxi people ar ruffians (one asked me to pay RS 900 for a distance that bills Rs 280 on the meter), the general pace of the city has a bit of political sarcasm (please don't ask me to explain that) and the city is grey. Grey mood, grey skies, grey roads, grey flyovers, grey buildings, grey everything.
Like a mumbaiyya friend remembers calcutta ?the place where they serve one piece of mutton in your biryani'.
Else the city has a few joints which are quite inviting, and of course, a lot of very nice people, some of who i am lucky to know :)

two awesome food blogs that are run by friends of friend, a must stop-over for anyone travelling to-from New Delhi. Aaaaaah.. the Delhi Food...

Eating out In Delhi
Every once in a while, someone comes up to me and conspiratorially recommends what must by now be the worst-kept secret in South Delhi’s “offbeat” food scene — Khan Chacha’s kabab corner in Khan Market. Frankly, I find said place more than a tad over-rated — the kabab rolls tend to be all shmushed up inside, and you can barely discern anything more than a floury-meaty taste.

I had talked of Moradabadi Biryani in an earlier write-up. In this post, I continue from there. We had just come out of the Biryani shop somewhat undecided. The stuff we bought looked rather dry; the accompanying chutney didn't seem too appetising either. All of us present agreed the Biryani needed some sort of gravy to go with it.

hi!

Most of the items/places you mentioned in the Kolkata Foodie list is no longer available :( I guess the list must be dated; and the character of the city has changed drastically in the last 10 years that I have stayed here. Everything grey is very apt, unfortunately. Except for the human-spirit of the place, maybe: which is still proud, passionate and pleasent!

There is a new hole in the wall shop on Carter Road, Bandra (mumbai, for those from the outside) called Red Ninja.

MUST try their noodles and Sui Mais (or however they are spelt).

Also a MUST is MONK at Galaxy Mall, 32nd Milestone, Gurgaon, Haryana. Absolutely perhaps the yummiest Oriental Cuisine I have ever tried (and I grew up in Kolkata). Try their sticky rice. Amazing!

Will try and post numbers for both.

eating out in mumbai

Colaba Causeway
Churchill's : Continental. But try their pastries and desserts.
Cafe Leopold's : SIp beer, eat sauteed sausages while you look at the lovely Mario Miranda paintings on the walls. Nothing short of being Frescos.
Bade Mian's : preferablytry this one at night. Amazing kebabs etc. Dont miss their Butter Chicken.
Baghdadi: As teh name suggests, food from Baghdad. Both Baghdadi and Bade Mian are tiny small inexpensive places where you will probably have to share your table with someone, but awesome for their food.

Mahim
Sneha : Fantastic malayalee food. Opposite Empire Bakery.
Goa Portuguesa : Try the wild board pickle here. You wont be disappointed.
I don't read The Economist

@Poor Trainee

If I am not mistaken the Mario Miranda paintings are at Cafe Mondegor and not Cafe Leopold.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, unless both the places have them...
