Kingfisher Calender Vs Sports Illustrated Calender

Post by Priyanka »

Seen both. But King Fisher with all it's hype and hula and top super models fails to deliver on quality. Forget the girls in swimsuit and look at it from pure art and you will see that the girls are stiff, the lighting dispropotionate and the styling weak.

What do you you guys think, please use your head :)

priyanka, we just started shooting swimsuits. give it few years and we will have great stuff. i think we have better photographers like tarun khiwal but people like atul kasbekar come across as more pimp because of their flashy lifestyle hence get more work. but then again atul who shot these calenders studied from new york's best photography school.

but i think bharat sikka is still india's best, no wonder he is shooting for Face magazine etc. he's also shooting regularly for french vogue and harpar bazzar.

Here's one of his image titled PAPAJI. And the second one called Conscientious.

righto. Atul seems to have lost his touch. the King2.jpg has the background made outof focus using a gaussian blur, completely ignoring the principles of photogrpahy. also its a huge distraction. he should not have used lights at all, since it makes it look all fake. then the colours and styling are very 80s.

the sports illustrated calendar is 'lit' to make it look 'lit'.

quite bad work for kingfisher.

The late Nestor Almendros would always switch off a light or two just beofore taking a shot. 'It looks electric', he would say...

I agree with him.

KF vs. SI

Post by tumunathan »

To compare the two would never be fair. SI has been shooting calendars for donkeys years and there is a tremendous amount of learning & experimentation that has been put behind. KF has just started. Givem time - they're either gonna get it right or go bust (no tongue-in-cheek :D ).

KF has not shot them dude. atul kasbekar has.

this country will get a lot better in termsof creative output, if we stop hiring paople on the basis of their Page3 status.

Atul has shot poorly. Period.

HE with all his gear, experience, 'talent', celebrity status etc has not delivered. KF is not to blame.

Here they ARE to blame is in doing yet another 'girlie' calendar. they could have tried something else. Since Kingfisher is the 'King of Good Times', the thought doesnt come through ina calendar of half naked poorly shot women. MAybe they shouyld have worked harder on the concept.

If Chanel or Givency had to do a calendar, they wouldmake it desirable, without having half naked women as the ONLY theme...And these brands also stand for the KING of all times, in some way.

SI vs. KF

The one who signs the cheque is the one to blame. Having worked with them before, I know these guys ditch stuff if its not up to the mark even after spending a bomb.
So screw this Atul Kasbekar guy, get someone who can deliver. Period.

Actually not. Just remembered. This could be exactly what KF wanted in the first place!

I think Atul has done a crap job as most of his other jobs, but people are dying to get this calender as this is one of those 'i want it too' items.

And at the end of the day we are still a country where we ogle at half naked women so the quality doesn't matter as long as you use top models at exotic locations.

On the other hand i do not see why Bharat Sikka's pix of 'sardarji' is so great?
