Interview with Jeevan Sebastian- Partner/Creative Director at Watercrab
From Aerospace Engineering to trainee Copywriter to Creative Director to Startup Owner, Jeevan Sebastian still manages to crack complex briefs and bowl over clients with a rather peculiar drawl and a monotone. So what is a sworn recluse doing in Advertising? He doesn’t know either. Last we heard, he’s on a solo ride across India to find out what he’s in doing in Advertising and more importantly, the purpose of his existence in this universe.
Why are you into Advertising?
There’s something very uninhibited about advertising. The majority of people in the industry are good and happy people. And good begets good. So there’s a self-thriving community that’s putting out some terrific work and at the same time, there’s enough room for everyone to grow and be happier.
Television Audience Measurement (TAM)
Article by Arvind Jayant, a student of Advertising at Symbiosis
The birth of television was rather caesarian, not the first born, yet an equally important child of science, money and the growing society. And since that happy day when man forever learned to see himself in a device other than a mirror, he has been set on the quest to manipulate the vision of the world, create an aesthetic collage and build a sustainable market around the artsy frame of the same.
Streaming through long cables, the box and the minds of several dedicated devotees of the small screen is the constant buzz of the above mentioned art, delicately intertwined with the whisper of a market scene- the Indian market scene or better still, the Indian television industry. Studies conducted by the Television Audience Measurement (TAM) of India slammed a figure suggesting that 134 million households in India possessed television sets.
Multia Studios
Multia is studio full of colours, passion, play and ideas.
Is Multia Studio primarily into identity design and brand communication? What all services do you provide?
We absolutely love to create a face and a heart for a business. It is exhilarating when we are able to give a business an identity that is unique and conveys what the clients endeavour as effortlessly as possible and sticks. So, yes, we do identity design, brand communication, web branding and print media. We also provide content and other allied services.
Tell us about your designers/animators. Did they go into fine art or design schools? How do you pick them up?
If they like triangles and Din, we hire them. But jokes apart, our concern is not just about being ‘pretty’ or about what kind of qualifications you have or what hotshot school you are from. The important thing is taste. It is about having an eye for something that is interesting, something that would speak to us and to a larger world. You can learn the craft, but taste and feel are generally innate. You can’t take a course on it. Also, a good designer has that instinct to soak in what is cool, smart and durable. It is something that shows early.

Vikrant Wadkar : Interview
Vikrant Wadkar hails from Wai, near Mahableshwar. He was educated in Panchgani and came to Mumbai, joined art college and learnt about this small world called ‘Advertising’.
Why are you in advertising?
I don’t know why, but I wanted to be in advertising right from the time I learnt about it. Today, I would have been jobless if it wasn’t advertising. I don’t know anything else to do in life.

Omkar Chitnis : Photographer
“I a Mumbai based photographer. I completed my graduation from J. J. Institute of Applied Art, Mumbai in 2007 with photography as Major. My college years not only groomed me aesthetically but also provided me with a sound understanding of photography as well as related media.
Having assisted the ace fashion photographer Prasad Naik, I started on my own in 2009. In past two years he has worked for clients like Kaya Skin Clinic, Red Fm, Vodafone, Reliance, Officer’s Choice, Yes Bank, Axis Bank, Wagh Bakri Tea, Aquaguard, Aquasure, Vinegar and many more.
I believe in learning by best of his abilities & making most of any opportunity.”
Why are you a photographer?
I don’t really remember how I decided to be a photographer. I had this connection with camera since I was a kid. I had a toy camera, which kept me busy for hours. Somewhere I knew I liked this field. Once I got into J. J. School of Art I got the opportunity to know photography in better sense. In my 3rd year I chose photography over other elective subjects because I knew this is what I am good at than anything else. And that’s how it started.
